Hi
On the tablet you can set the wear rate as well as the probability of a failure. To me a failure is the ultimate consequence of a component wearing down. Hence the two events depend on each other. But here we can change the probability of the one without affecting the other. So my question is whether wear and failures are actually independent events?
Thank you
Christian

Re: Wear vs. failure probability
Wear rate is just what you would think it is, over time parts that move and make contact with other parts slowly wear down. If a part is left indefinitely it will eventually wear away to an ultimate failure. But this is just one kind of failure.
There are countless reasons a machine can fail before it reaches its expected life span. If failure was simply due to something wearing out, then warranties wouldn't exist.
Scott.

Thanks for clearing that up Scott. Amazing that you simulate both random failures as well as "wear based" failures.
